Junior Infants have been working hard on handwriting. We are working on circle letters (c,o,a,d,g,q) at the moment and this week we worked on the letter g. We had great fun painting the letter and then we tried to write the letter on whiteboards.
Ellie our class puppet had left a surprise for us this morning. She had a letter and a green bag full of unusual objects. We spent some time wondering what they could be for before we discovered there was a book in the bag too! We read the story, and it was so much fun that some of us decided to build the boat from the story and pretend to be the characters from the story. We have been enjoying exploring the snow this week. We went outside to feel the snow in our hands and to find out what caused it to melt when we picked it up. Then we used pipettes and coloured water to paint on the snow. It was so much fun and we were building strength in our fingers to make us super writers. We didn't stay outside very long though because it was so cold. The children have really loved exploring pumpkins when learning about autumn. We started by drawing and painting pictures of pumpkins and we ended by cutting open a pumpkin and exploring it's insides. We saw seeds and the fleshy part that people eat and we spoke about how big pumpkins grow from tiny seeds. The children all said that inside the pumpkin felt "cold" and "squishy" We have been learning to make repeating patterns. We started by extending patterns made by our teacher and then we created patterns of our own. In these photos you can see some excellent 2 colour patterns, but some children attempted 3 and 4 colour patterns too! We are having so much fun developing our Pre-Writing skills. We are working hard on developing a strong pencil grip. In these photos you will see us learning to draw squares and triangles, these shapes will be important when we start to write letters. We love to play in Junior Infants. Through play the children develop friendships, creativity, problem-solving skills, resilience and lots more. Take a look at some pictures of us learning through play. The children have been learning to sort objects. We started by reading the story Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see? by Bill Martin Jr. and we used the different characters from the story to help us find items that matched each colour. Then the children started to work in pairs to sort objects by colour Today was our first day in primary school. We were excited and a little nervous, but we had a great day playing with our new friends. Look at all those happy faces! |
