Today was our first Sports Day at school. We had lots of fun. The best part was the water race, we worked together to move the water from one bucket to the other using sponges. You can see some photos of the day in the video below.
Today Wooly Farm came to our school. We got to hold some rabbits and guinea pigs. We also got to brush the goats, a pig and high 5 a duck. We had so much fun. After that we had a Teddy Bear's Picnic. We ate our lunches outside with our friends and we even got some treats from the teachers. Check out the video below for the highlights of our day. Junior Infants have been learning about weight this week. We talked about things that were heavy and light, and used a balance scale to help us sort items into heavy and light categories. Using all that we learned we then baked some cupcakes using a balance scale to measure the ingredients. We used a recipe that had pictures on it to help us understand the steps. Who knew maths could be so much fun?! Check out the slideshow below to see some photos of us making and eating our cupcakes 🧁 We had so much fun learning to Irish dance. Some children from 6th Class came down to help us and then they taught us An Dreoilín. We also enjoyed trying Riverdance for the first time. We know that we need money to lots of things. We use pretend money in our play most days; to buy seeds in the garden centre, in the shop and even in the doctor's surgery. We have built on this knowledge and started identifying some coins. We were working with 1c, 2c, and 5c coins. We did coin rubbings, sorted the coins and used the coins to buy things in our class shop. We have been learning about spring and spring flowers. For art this week we made some observational drawings of daffodils. At first we found it hard to focus on drawing what we see but we did a great job. We loved the daffodils so much that we kept them on our tables all week. We were so careful not to spill the water and make sure we kept our daffodils safe. February's play theme was The Garden Centre. We have loved learning about what plants need to grow and then exploring this in our play. We also planted some cress and beans. The cress grew really quickly but we are still waiting for our beanstalks to grow. I wonder will there be a giant at the top of our beanstalk like in the story Jack and the Beanstalk?! We have been having lots of fun learning about waterproof materials. We started with a whole class experiment testing a variety of materials to find out if they were waterproof. We then sorted the materials into 2 groups - waterproof and not waterproof. Then during play time we were able to freely explore these materials and test them for ourselves. After all this hard work we used waterproof materials to design a new raincoat. We are learning all about the number 4 this month. The children have been discovering different ways of representing number 4, learning how to write the number 4 and exploring the story of 4. We loved using playdough to form the letter and make sets of 4. Some of us even tried writing some number sentences that make up the story of 4. Ellie had another surprise for us this morning. This time she had left some straw, sticks and bricks on our carpet. There was also a book, but the cover was hidden. From the things left on the floor we guessed it was the story of the Three Little Pigs, and we were right! We read the story and then at play time some of us wrote labels for the straw, sticks and bricks and some of us used sponges and shaving cream to build houses. |
